Knowing Your Superpower: EqualXS Foundation at the Day Out for Autism with Washington Autism Alliance

At Marina Park in Kirkland, Washington, EqualXS Foundation showed up where it matters most: in the community, in person, surrounded by hundreds of neurodivergent individuals and their families.
The Day Out for Autism, organised by the Washington Autism Alliance, brought together autistic individuals, caregivers, educators, and advocates for a sensory-sensitive celebration of inclusion, acceptance, and possibility. EqualXS was proud to be part of it.
Our presence wasn't just about being visible. It was about listening. Hundreds of neurodivergent community members engaged with us directly, sharing their needs, their aspirations, and their experiences of navigating a world not always designed with them in mind. What we heard reinforced something EqualXS deeply believes: that neurodivergent individuals carry unique strengths that, when recognised and nurtured, can become the foundation of a meaningful, self-directed life.
The highlight of our engagement was the 'Know My Superpower' campaign, in which 130+ participants identified and celebrated their own strengths. Not as an exercise in positivity, but as a genuine act of recognition. For many, it was the first time someone had asked them to share what they are great at, rather than what they struggle with.
What this event made clear is that the neurodivergent community is not a community that needs to be fixed. It is a community that needs to be met, understood, and equipped. The gap is not in their abilities. It is in the access to resources, guidance, and spaces that affirm who they already are.
EqualXS left the event with new relationships, deeper understanding, and a stronger commitment to ensuring that our programmes and outreach are as inclusive and far-reaching as the communities we are here to serve.
