Ambition Without Direction: Closing the Guidance Gap for Engineering Students

This event was attended by 62 students from polytechnic institute. This event became a powerful reminder that ambition is never the problem.

Dominated by engineering students, this session revealed a generation with a strong pull toward flexible, skill-based work: coding, content creation, teaching, and design. Yet beneath their interests lay a quiet, persistent frustration with an education system that wasn't answering their most urgent questions -

How do I earn?

Where do I start?

Is there a path for someone like me?

Three core challenges emerged clearly:

a deep guidance gap,

lack of regional opportunities, and

low confidence rooted not in inability, but in never having been shown a starting point.

Most were financially dependent on family or part-time income, and many were beginners who needed a structured path, not just inspiration.

One student captured it simply: "We have the interest, we just don't know what to do with it."

Over two hours, EqualXS mapped possibilities, addressed specific questions, and worked to shift the energy in the room, from uncertainty to something that felt a lot like direction.

The gap here isn't talent. It's access to guidance.
